R.I.G.L. §27-29-4(15)
- Rhode Island Law deems it an Unfair Claims Practice for an insurance company to “require that repairs be made to anautomobile at a specified auto body repair shop, or to interfere with the insured’s or claimant’s free choice of repair facility.” You have the right to choose your repair facility. Once you tell the insurance company of your choice, they may not discuss your choice or attempt to change your mind.
Many factors can effect the amount of time required to repair your vehicle such as
- Weather: Hot and cold temperatures affect the way paint dries and cures. Time must also be allowed for solvents to escape.
- Reinspections: If hidden damage is discovered while repairs are being performed we must stop, notify the insurance company and wait until their adjuster has had an opportunity to inspect the damage.
- Previous Repairs: If your vehicle was previously repaired in the same general area, it is often necessary to correct the old repairs in order to guarantee the work we perform.
- Color Match: All colors are slightly different. Even a new vehicle will require color tinting. Our technicians often take two or more hours to arrive at the correct color match.
- Parts: The repairs will be delayed: if hidden damage requires additional parts, or if the factory is unable to send us the part due to a backorder.
